THE FIRST STEP TO BECOMING A PILOT
A private pilot certificate is the first step for anyone who dreams of flying. It's great for those who want to fly for fun or use an airplane to save time on business trips. Many private pilots enjoy exploring different types of aircraft and using their skills to make travel more convenient.
In the U.S., most pilots hold a private pilot certificate. This allows them to fly small planes (under 12,500 lbs) as long as they have the right training. They can fly almost anywhere, as long as the weather is clear enough to see (known as visual flight rules, or VFR). While private pilots can carry passengers and even use their plane for business purposes, they can't get paid for flying...you'll need to get your Commercial License from AV8R Unlimited for that!

What’s involved in Flight Training?
Flight training is split into two parts: ground school and flight lessons.
-
Ground school: This is where you learn the "book knowledge" of flying, like airplane rules, how planes work, navigation, weather, and radio communication. You can do this online at your own pace, from home.
-
Flight lessons: These are hands-on sessions where you learn how to control the plane. Lessons typically last around 3 hours, with 1-2 hours of actual flying. Each lesson focuses on specific skills you'll need to pass both a written and practical flight test.
What aircraft will you fly?
You’ll have the chance to fly two aircrafts during your training at AV8R UNLIMITED:
-
The Cessna 150, which is perfect for beginners due to its simplicity and smooth handling.
-
The Aeropilot L600, a modern, light sport aircraft offering advanced features and a sleek design, giving students experience with a newer aircraft.

The time it takes depends on how often you fly and study. With three 3-hour lessons a week, most students can earn their certificate in about 8 weeks. If you’re considering a career as a professional pilot, we can provide a more detailed training plan.
